A Worthy Choice
Rating (5)
Date: 2005-03-24
This wonderful two-volume set chronologically lists events as they occurred day by day for the decade of the 1990's. Entries are brief, ranging from a sentence to a paragraph. The taxonomy is intuitive, with categories that consist of: world affairs; Europe; Africa and the Middle East; the Americas; Asia and the Pacific; US politics and social issues; US foreign policy; US economy and environment;, science, technology, and nature; and culture, lifestyle, and leisure. No omissions of any importance were noted. While very suitable for browsing, this volume is particularly valuable for students and researchers who know about when an event occurred, but don't have the exact date-something necessary to begin looking up periodical and newspaper articles. This is accomplished with an impressively comprehensive index. Since no index can be completely thorough, this is one reference set that would particularly benefit from being converted into a word-searchable database.
