Since its publication in 1998, “The $100 Hamburger- A Guide to Pilot’s Favorite Fly-In Restaurants” has become more than a book. It is a cultural phenomenon felt far outside its intended target market, general aviation owner pilots. Virtually every aviation magazine has written about the book. The April 2001 edition of Plane& Pilot referred to it as “general aviation’s version of the Zagat Guide”. The November 2001 edition of Flying pointed it out to “Fly-in diners intent on finding decent $100 Hamburgers.” The mainstream media has covered as well. The July 26, 2001 edition of The Wall Street Journal featured an above the fold, front page article of 23 column inches. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune and others had written flattering feature articles on our book over the life of the next edition. The book’s companion website clocks over 450,000 site visits per month. Each week it receives 50 to 100 updates (PIREPs) from our pilot readers. These PIREPs affect over 80% of the sites reported on in the book. New restaurants have opened, some restaurants and even some airports have closed. Today only twenty percent of the data from the current edition is fully accurate. The new edition will feature over 80% new content – new restaurants, new airports, and completely updated reports on both from pilots all over the US, Canada, and the UK.

We had an older version for years and was looking forward to a more reliable version. Well, we'd stopped at one and called another both have changed hands and were no longer recommended by the FBO. I know there are many more to try in this book, but we will call first.
I do think it is a really fun concept, but I don't know how to keep it current.

Very handy, found food service on or near airports I did not know about.
Disappointed a little due the limited number of restraunts in CA.
Othewise a good reference book for pilots.

Like food critic Ego in Ratatoille, the author weilds unnatural power over the reputations of hard working food establishments in the US. He trashes restaurants we have had delightful meals in, and gives rave reviews to those just short of ptomain. Sad. Very sad. Not balanced at all.
When our concerns were expressed to the author, we were directed to his "pay-to-post" website to record our opinion. Seems a bit self-serving, no?
Our suggestion would be to make up your own mind with an FAA Airport Facility Directory instead. If this book had not been a gift, I would have asked for my money back.

and have even given it to a fellow aviator as well. It's great for weekend trips, although I'd still recommend asking around the FBO where you fuel or tie down. Some info was out of date, but overall it's a fun book to use!

This book is fun to read. Not sure that all the information is up to date. Think I would cross check the restaurants with Google's new global search engine before I left the ground just to be sure they still exist.
