Too much violence

The book was just too violent. I wanted a strong girl image for my daughter who sees herself as a Zulu Warrior. Glad that I pre-read it. I gave it to a library sale. I'm sure that someone will want to read it, but not my child. Be wary of who you are giving this to.
Okay, but...

Honestly the book really isn't bad, considering the target audience, but it certainly isn't great either. The characters are a bit two dimensional and the dialogue is a bit cheesy and it distracts from the story.
If you're looking for a good read in this genre or for your child I would highly recommend The King's Blade.

I didn't read this book myself, as it was a gift for my 16 yr old daughter who doesn't read much of anything not on a computer screen. She actually read this in record time (1-2 days) and had nothing negative to say. I would suggest that this is a good mindless summer read; nothing that betters comprehension or reading skills at her age/education level.
