Great band, cool people, sadly overlooked band. Sound very Bad Brains influenced (cant be a bad thing)

Give this a listen, you wont regret it.

why doesn't dischord offer this essential music anymore? what an injustice. a grossly underrated and all but forgotten hardcore punk band from when i was first heavily involved in that scene, beefeater were mind-blowingly original, hugely inspirational and couldn't really be compared to any of their contemporaries of the time. but if i had to try, i'd say they had the same urgency and conviction as bad brains--with an even broader scope and range of influences than said band. beefeater were a bit too "quirky" or funky for some more close-minded hardcore and punk types' tastes, but that was truly their loss. they are still in my top five or so bands ever.

A seminal record for a generation

It's awfully sad to hear that this CD is out of print, because it spoke to the hearts of a whole generation of kids growing up in the eighties and early nineties. Hearing these records, when I was fourteen, taught me about the power of music not just as entertainment but as path of spiritual and political growth. Beefeater's idealism, and its sound, would probably come across as awfully dated to someone encountering it for the first time in 2003, but the band should be remembered for the crucial role it played in our lives.

Long gone but essential

This truly is some of the most original and interesting music Dischord has ever released, and the CD is now one of the most impossible discs to find anywhere. I even found out that Dischord will NOT be reissuing it at all, despite the fact that they have recently been re-releasing "remastered" versions of most of their previously out-of-print CD's. I guess only the few and the lucky will be able to enjoy the original, and soak up the crazy soulful "trash-funk" sound that only these guys have ever been able to create. (By the way, the track list above is actually for "Super Genius" by CIRCUS LUPUS! Weird...)

The BEST punk from the D.C. area.

I grew up listening to Beefeater when I was in high school, and loved the band. The lyrics were thought-provoking, and the music was truly top-flight for the punk genre.

They manage to combine seemingly disparate elements to form a pretty potent stew of punk, funk, gospel and metal. I would tell anyone who likes music with an attitude and great lyrics on social and political issues (as well as personal and interpersonal issues) to BUY THIS DISC NOW!
