THIRD TIME ISN'T THE "CHARM" - a long way down from "KINGS"

As much as I absolutely loved Adam and the Ants' first two albums - DIRK WEARS WHITE SOCKS and especially its crossover follow-up KINGS OF THE WILD FRONTIER - I just can't heartily recommend PRINCE CHARMING. Save for the three singles (the peerles, still heart-stopping STAND & DELIVER, possibly the ANTS best single, the campy title track, and the so-bad-its-good proto-rap ANT RAP), the rest sounds like flippant, indulgent dreck & doesn't stand up today. If you remember that KINGS came out in 1980, and this came out less than one year later in 1981, the album sounds like a rush job to capitalize on ADAM's run of radio hits - clever early MTV videos and swashbuckling image aside, PRINCE CHARMING proves that third time isn't the charm!

Adam Ant is one of the best singers there is and he delivers the best hard rock I gave ever heard. Prince Charming is awesome! Five stars! I'm lovin' every minute of it.

I listened to Adam and the Ants a lot when they broke on the scene. It never really sunk in that they were emulating gay, dandy highwaymen. Haven't listened to them much since, never watched him on mtv. Just started playing my old tape and lp collection and rediscovered them. I'm not one for listening to lyrics, but the music on this album is exquisitely original. "Prince Charming" definitely stands the test of time in my book.
I just ordered this, Kings of the Wild Frontier and "Antics" (I'm unfamiliar with any of his other music besides Prince C. and Kings albums) to have them on CD.
Buy it for "That Voodoo". The refrain is killer. Lyrics are sometimes nonsensical, but if you give the music a chance it gets inside your head. Turn it up! The way Mowhok seques into SEX...
I usually listen to music a la grateful dead, jerry garcia band, and am attending the last phish show, but a few 80s groups had some songs that still sound fresh, i.e. blondie, cars, talking heads...

At least that is what it sounds like to me. Guaranteed that you have NEVER heard anything like this album. It is weird and perfect. One of the best cds on Earth. And it has Stand and Deliver and Prince Charming- so you can't possibly go wrong. My favorite song on the cd is a tie between Voodoo and Picasso Visits the Planet of the Apes. Or S.E.X. Oh- how I love that song. Sigh.

Are you sick of everything being played on the radio right now? Do you want something different? Do I sound like an informercial? Well, fine. If that is what it takes for you to buy this cd!! Well? What are you waiting for? Whip out that credit card! Times a wasting!

This was a great follow up. While the 9 songs might be a little lacking in today's standard, in the day of the LP, 9 songs was something we were use to. I must have heard this album a few thousand times. Oh, and he even does a rap song on here, long before it was faishionable for a punk to do rap. His however was original, unlike the Rage Against the Machine clones that we have today.
