Chew on this

Although Curtis Salgado is classified as blues this album jumps all over the map. It is very hard to classify. It is just plain great. It took awhile to grow on me but when it did, every song stuck in my head. Branch out and try Curtis. You won't be sorry.

Some of a soul man's best

With Curtis' in the news because of his health problems, I have been giving a retrospective listen to his music. "More Than You Can Chew" remains my favorite solo album by him. I am also a fan of his work with Robert Cray and Terry Robb. The three best numbers on "More" are 'Little Charmer,' with its hints of New Orleans blues, 'Salt in My Wounds,' traditional R&B, and the playful dance tune 'Jump Into Love.' However, none of the numbers is really disappointing. I would recommend "More Than You Can Chew" as an introduction to Curtis' work for those not familiar with it.
Of course, I hope that Curtis will get the liver transplant he needs to survive. Surely, he has many more years of fine music to bring us. Whatever happens, I am glad to have known Curtis Salgado and enjoyed his sizable talent.

I'm not usually a fan of this type of music but this is a great energetic cd.Curtis Salgado has a nice strong voice and there's a great use of background vocals and some great catchy songs especially Heartless.I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on the blues because I just picked this up on a whim at a used music store but if you like the blues or Chris Rea or James Blood Ulmer or Ry Cooder you might like this too.Cool undiscovered music.
