First off, the presented music is excellent sampler of Baroque music. The first piece by Mouret just brings "Masterpiece Theater" to the fore. The version of Pachebel's canon is well paced as far as I'm concerned. My first encounter with Albinoni's adagio was with the cassette version of this title.
However, the CD is not by the same company that produced the cassette years back. Noticeably missing is the Luigi Boccherini's Minuetto from string quintet in E major. That is the main difference and the reason for the four stars. Handel's Largo from "Xerxes" is present but I believe is done by a another group.
Considering when the cassette was originally released (~1978; Vox Turnabout), I suspect getting the master to transfer to CD was an adventure. The end result was the musical passages by Handel and Boccherini were essentially lost. That's just my take.
The bottom line is that this is a good introduction to Baroque music. Please don't hesitate to pick this up.
The best baroque deal I've found...

This is a great collection, and for the $ -- can't be beat. The pacing of Pachelbel's cannon is excellent -- not overplayed, doesn't take itself too seriously. Just the music, as it was meant to be played -- simple, unadorned, and right on time...
