tunes 5+ star, spoken word stuff 0 stars

This is just an outstanding disk - at least, the actual TUNES on it are. On the Way Up, So Much More, Half the Time & others feature outstanding guitar playing, poignant lyrics, AND great vocals. The highlights are The Whole of the Moon - BOTH the live version (recorded at a subway stop - AWESOME!) and the studio version - and the fabulous "If Love is Not Enough" - Blues, funk, w bluegrass instrumentation. Bouncy, fun - great stuff. The only detriment, to me, are the spoken word tracks. These always get skipped over or programmed around on my player. Still, there are only a few of those, so they are far outweighed by the brilliance of the tunes. A definite buy - just learn to program your CD player to avoid the spoken word stuff.

I have all of Mulvey's cds, and they are all good, but Rapture is definitely my favorite. I'd put this on my top 10 cds of all-time list - I can leave this in my car cd player for weeks at a time. The guitar work on this cd is amazing and the lyrics are poeticly some of the best in modern day songwriting.I've seen Mulvey play a handful of times and for anyone who has never seen him play, go to his website, find out when he is playing nearby, and go! If you have even a remote appreciatian for good music then I guaruntee you will not be disapointed. Peter has a funny personality and an interesting past as a Boston subway musician. If you play guitar you will be amazed at how he plays. His guitar playing is full of odd tunings, and he comes up with a creative new style to playing guitar. So what are you waiting for? Buy this cd, it is one of my personal all time favorites. Scott

This is probably one of my favorite albums of all time. It never leaves my CD for extended vacation and yet it remains fresh. Mulvey is a great singer songwriter with fantastic guitar skills. So here are some reasons you should buy this CD:1) the live version of Whole of the Moon at the end is jaw dropping and a good idea of what live Mulvey is like. There's something very "real" about the subway train arriving in the middle. 2) even if you don't like the singer songwriter guys, if you are a guitar player, the guitar instrumental on this album will make you stare at your own hands with disdain and then go play finger exercises for a few hours. jaw-dropping. 3) i can't think of a more beautiful song than "One the way up". (for the young female audience i would add "and it was on Felicity") 4) White boy funk of "If love is not enough" would have been written by Stevie Wonder if he could see and was a white guy from Wisconsin. 5) Aurora Borealis. Archie Bunker experiences spiritual enlightenment or something. Again, amazing guitar work, great characterization in the lyrics. I could list more, but you should be pushing the order button. Now go!!

I spent a Summer on Cape Cod in 1996, and a friend of mine went to this little coffee shop in Hyannis and heard this guy named Peter Mulvey, do a few numbers on his guitar. She fell in love, bought the CD and made me listen to it...over, and over , and over again! I fell in love with his music as well! He is an up and coming star, so be one of the first to have heard this guy before he hits the big time!

This album has been the soundtrack to my life for the past two years. The honesty of Peter Mulvey's words in combination with the simple power of his voice makes this album something that nearly every music lover will enjoy. Buy it now; put it on repeat and listen to one of modern folk's great poets.
