Playful, intelligent jazz with many magical moments

Bay Area jazz drummer and educator, Wally Schnalle, leads us on a journey that splits the musical "atoms" of
meter and melody - rearranging the elements in delightful ways. One would expect that a drummer of Schnalle's caliber would produce a CD full of tight groves and flashy fills, but Physics & Magic offers far more to the listener than percussive explorations over basic jazz fusion tracks. Schnalle's five piece ensemble (drums, keyboard, sax, bass & guitar) bounce off one another in unique exchanges that clearly show how comfortable these musicians are with one another and in interpreting Schnalle's inventive compositions.
Guitar fans will find some real gems in both the support and solo work of Jeff Massanari.
However, there are no "egotistical indulgences" on Physics & Magic... each member of the ensemble adds both wisdom and wit to the mix.
