A wonderful mix of themes and "ocean" music. Great choral work, too--esp. "What Shall We Do With A Drunken Sailor". You have to get up and move your feet! This is a "must-have" CD for lovers of the sea.

The fact that we human beings originated from the Earth's waters gives us a bond to all things associated with the sea. We find the oceans cool, soothing, refreshing, treacherous, exciting, and just plain fun. Thus, these same adjectives (and more) can be applied to this collection of "sea-inspired" tunes. From the classic pop standards ("Ebb Tide," "Banana Boat Song, "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay," "Calypso," and "Margaritaville") to traditional folk ("Sea Chanteys") to songs from the movies ("Under the Sea" from "The Little Mermaid," "Love Came for Me" from "Splash," and selections from "Jonathan Livingston Seagull") this is a seafarer's delight.Hey, even a landlubber might set sail after hearing this one.

It's often hard to find music for skating programs. You have to find instrumental music with changes of tempo that are easy to cut and splice.A friend of mine was competing at the first United States Adult National Figure Skating Championships and she used my suggestion to take cuts from this album's "Banana Boat Song" and put that together with "The Chiquita Banana Song" from Erich Kunzel's "Fiesta!" album. The music got raves from everyone who saw it. I've heard numerous other tracks from this cd at the rink including the "New Hampshire Hornpipe", "Ebb Tide", "Dear Father" and "Under the Sea." It seems to be popular! The rest of the album is fun to listen to if you enjoy instrumentals. These aren't sappy 101 Strings instrumentals either. They have interesting orchestrations with varied use of different sections when you'd least expect it.

We have the CD and the tape of this album. One is on our boat and the other is at our island summer place. We are getting another for our home so that we can listen to it all winter while we wait for sailing season again. The album includes sailing themes from popular movies, a small number of sea chanties (just enough to be fun) and some sea sounds. It is relaxing -- perfect for cocktails on the boat, by the water, or wishing that you were!
