Wow! Caillou has changed for 2006...

Just when my 3 year old thought Caillou couldn't get any better here comes the 2006 season. They must have been listening in on the conversations at our house because they've made quite a few changes over the old format. The first thing you'll notice is that the puppets are gone - which may or may not be a good thing depending on what's popular at your house. We spent nearly a year having to fast-forward those segments so for us more Caillou is a good thing. But the singing and dancing kids are also gone as are the real-life segments. I liked them but I could never tell for sure whether my son did. Instead, Caillou himself sings or hosts a game.
The rest of the changes seem very good to me. Every episode has a make-believe scene where Caillou imagines himself (and his friends) doing something exciting like driving a fire truck or using a bulldozer. My son LOVES these vignettes and talks about them in between viewings. There's one thing he hasn't noticed that my husband and I are both very happy about - no more whiny Caillou. It's very noticable, Caillou's behavior and his way of communicating his feelings are much improved and seem to set a much better example - at least for our son.
I think a cast member or two may have also changed. Grandpa's voice sounds a little different as does the voice of Caillou himself.
Sure hope they make more episodes soon! This season is the best yet and something I'm more than willing to let my son watch now and then.
